Welcome to Eflora.info, a curated repository of notes and excerpts from a diverse collection of books, journals, and online sources. Our primary objective is to provide researchers with an efficient starting point for exploring utilitarian biota—plants with practical applications.
The project emphasizes identifying analogous traits across species, genera, and families. By synthesizing information from a wide range of disciplines, we aim to illuminate the multifaceted potential of each species.
Based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, this project maintains a special focus on the flora of Vancouver Island and the surrounding West Coast.
Important Disclaimer & User Caution
The information presented on this site is provided for educational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical or botanical advice.
Health & Safety: Self-diagnosis and treatment based on this site's information are strongly discouraged and could be harmful. Many of the plants profiled are poisonous, have toxic properties, or may cause adverse effects through misuse, allergic reactions, drug interactions, or environmental contaminants.
"Deadly" Hazard Label: Plants marked with the "Deadly" hazard label are exceptionally dangerous. Their toxins are not easily degraded or rendered safe for human consumption. Even small doses can be fatal, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
Accuracy: No guarantee can be made regarding the accuracy or authenticity of the material. Information is collected from a wide array of sources and is not independently verified. Comparisons and links drawn between related species may later prove to be erroneous.
Conservation: Some plants featured may be rare or endangered. Please exercise caution and mindfulness when harvesting any species for any purpose.
Scope: Certain data, including but not limited to, cell culture and large-dose animal studies, are beyond the scope of this project. Some information may be omitted for legal or practical considerations.
Copyright & Fair Use/Fair Dealing
All information on this site is provided free of charge for educational purposes and public discourse, in accordance with Fair Use (USA) and Fair Dealing (Canada) principles.
Public Domain & Site Photography: Photographs taken from the public domain and those without specific references may be used freely unless otherwise indicated.
Copyrighted Material: Drawings, range maps, figures, and other cited materials are the property of their respective copyright owners and are not in the public domain.
Methodology
Material is compiled through keyword searches of public and private book collections, academic journals, and websites. While journal and website references are included on each monograph, book references are consolidated on the main References page to improve page readability.
Project Status & Development
Eflora.info is a dynamic and continuously evolving project.
February 2024: Mirror site established at `https://eflora.neocities.org`. More grass species added. Updates made to the About section, reference page, and pages with legacy formatting.
February 2025: The main site has undergone a visual redesign. A new database has been added, with future goals including interactive graphs, charts, and real-time statistics. Updates will continue for both versions of the site.
March 17, 2025: The main site is transitioning to PHP to enhance aesthetics and functionality. The mirror site will remain HTML. Old pages should redirect automatically.
April 3, 2025: Implementing a page revision history toggle and AI-generated page summaries from Google Illuminate.
AI Disclosure
Excluding source code, all AI-generated content will be explicitly labeled as such. AI-generated audio discourse will be added in the future as an additional tool to augment the plant profiles. While these audio summaries are reviewed, they are not fact-checked against the source material and should be carefully scrutinized by the reader.
